Missy Franklin is definitely becoming the women's story of Trials. And last night the U.S. added two veterans to the team in Jason Lezak and Natalie Coughlin, both on relays. It will be good to have their experience, energy and wisdom with a team that has a lot of first-timers on it.
Sunday Finals Assignment: Walking stroke on the lane 9 side, behind the moving camera
Monday finals I am off.
Last night there was a reception in the old Union Station, sponsored by the USA Swimming Foundation. A great time to wind down, catch up with people I don't see a lot and talking with fellow officials in a non-official setting.
This morning we had a dozen officials at the devotional time. It was a good but quick 20 minutes to get to connect on a different level.
I shared out of 1 Peter 1:13-16: "Be holy because I am holy."
Two points:
1 - Holiness is not the absence of things but the presence of Someone - a holy God.
2 - Holiness is about being radically distinct rather than distant.
Lots of freestyle today which means little to do - unless it's the 1500 and you're on the turn end! A very wet morning holding the lap counters for 7 heats.
Here are some more photos from around the facility.
This is part of the hallway that circles underground.
The officials room is about 30 yards down on the left.
Most of the "USA" Olympic ring flags are gone.
I'd really love one of these chairs! Haven't even been allowed to sit in them.
I mentioned in a previous post about doping control by USADA. This is the sign on their room. Not real exciting I know but this is where a career can be quickly derailed.
The turn end this morning before the Women's 50 Free
The following four photos are of the Omega Timing booth. These guys are masters
at getting the times right. There are no human timers on deck at Trials. Everything is done
electronically with touch pads and cameras to help determine an order of finish in case
there is a discrepancy with the times.
